ABOUT EXPO XPLORER DUBAI:

The live digital twin of the Expo site covers more than 200 buildings from the world’s leading architects across a huge site; including 192 country pavilions across three thematic districts. The experience took hundreds of artists working around the world more than two years to create.

As a 3D Generalist during the pandemic, my role presented unique challenges. My involvement in the project was intermittent, depending on the evolving needs and my availability. This dynamic required adaptability, especially as numerous aspects of the project, like the narrative component, were continuously evolving. These changes often impacted asset hand-offs, making it crucial to maintain efficiency and meet strict deadlines despite the unpredictable nature of the workflow.

      TASKS

  • Collaborative Design Development: Collaborated closely with researchers and producers to achieve a stylized-realistic aesthetic for the project's assets, ensuring a cohesive and appealing visual style.

  • Avatar Size Variation and Blend Shapes: Utilized blend shapes in Autodesk Maya to test and create various avatar sizes and their corresponding assets, allowing for a diverse range of character customizations.

  • Cultural Asset Creation: Designed avatar assets and structures of cultural significance, drawing from thoroughly researched documentation and specific client references, to ensure authenticity and relevance.

  • Optimization of CAD Models: Streamlined and reduced the draw calls of complex CAD models of various structures, enhancing their performance and efficiency within the game engine.

  • NPC Optimization Using Simplygon: Employed Simplygon for vertex painting to meticulously optimize the appearance and performance of different non-player characters (NPCs) within the experience.

  • LOD Generation in Unity: Produced Levels of Detail (LOD) for props, buildings, and characters within the Unity game engine, balancing visual quality with performance to ensure a smooth gaming experience.

  • Efficient Material Creation with Substance Painter: Developed smart materials in Substance Painter, enabling rapid and efficient changes to the assets' materials, thereby reducing turnaround time.

  • Quality Assurance of Outsourced Assets: Conducted thorough quality checks on assets delivered by outsourced teams, ensuring they met the project's standards and requirements.
