ABOUT DESTINATION EXPLORATION:
This immersive experience was a highlight of SCAD Day, an event designed for future and prospective students of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), as well as their families. It offered a unique and engaging narrative experience, showcasing the creative and collaborative spirit of SCAD. The purpose was to highlight the interdisciplinary collaboration that is a hallmark of the institution.
The creation of this experience was a testament to the collaborative talents across various departments at SCAD. Production students designed and built the physical set, bringing their technical skills and creativity to the forefront. The experience was further brought to life by talented actors from the film program, who infused energy and realism into the narrative. And, finally, the virtual experience itself was crafted by us in the game development department, blending the physical and digital elements seamlessly. This project was a perfect example of how students from different disciplines can come together to create something truly extraordinary.
TASKS
-
Particle Effects and Earth Creation in Unreal Engine 4: I was responsible for designing and implementing all particle effects and creating a detailed model of Planet Earth in the experience, using the robust capabilities of Unreal Engine 4. This involved crafting visually compelling effects and a realistic earth model to enhance the overall immersive experience.
-
Collaboration with Directors and Actors: In a coordinated effort, I worked alongside directors and actors to tailor the particle effects to align seamlessly with the storyline. This collaboration ensured that the visual effects not only matched but also accentuated the narrative and performances, contributing to a cohesive and engaging experience.
-
Optimization for VR Performance: I performed thorough profiling of textures, 3D models, and materials to identify areas needing optimization. The focus was to improve the frame rate within the VR environment, ensuring a smooth and responsive experience. This process was crucial in maintaining high visual quality while optimizing the performance for VR.
